Body Cinematography
The one major thing that stood out to me about "The Body" was the vast difference in cinematography between the episode and previous ones we have watched. The photography in "The Body" seemed centered around Buffy's grief. For example, when the EMTs arrive at her home, and she is told by one of them that her mother has passed away, the camera doesn't pan up farther than Buffy's height- looking straight at the EMT's chest. Also, there are flashes of potential scenarios occurring that are only occurring within Buffy's mind, and Whedon allows the audience to experience her attempts to cope this way. There was also a palpable lack of music in the episode. It's interesting to me how small elements like these can dramatically change the tone and environment of an episode.

I completely agree. I think Joss let his creativity run wild in this episode with the camera work, and all the subtle angles. Buffy's first "flashback" tricked me when I watched it originally. I thought the EMT's were able to get Joyce back and she would be alright. But when the audience is thrown back into reality, and everything suddenl goes silent again, it has a profound impact on the emotion Joss was trying to create.
