This show...

So as if I wasn't turned off enough by the acting and the plot in general, we now have a sacrificial lamb, Doyle, who was actually the one entertaining part of this show for me. Now, I am stuck with Angel and Cordelia. Not only did Doyle die, but of course, it had to be the whole "no not you, me" angle. This show just seems like one big cliche to me, everything seems forced and awkward, just like the commercial shoot. Of course Doyle has to kiss Cordelia before his death and of course he has to come up with some one liner. "Too bad we'll never know if this is a face you could have learned to love."? My goodness, I like you Doyle but let's get this thing wrapped up already. I really don't mean to sound like such a hater, but I can't wait until we get through this phase of the class and on to the next project.

I do kind of feel like if they are expecting us to buy Doyle's heroic death it needs to be less corny.

To be honest, I feel like his death was a plot contrivance, just done to further the story line.

But define "plot contrivance" and explain why that inherently bad.

Don't worry, Ryan...we'll be done with Angel, soon. :)

I feel as though Doyle's choice to sacrifice himself come off as a stepping stone on Angel's path to finding himself, and that just didn't appeal to me.

Angel needed the shock back into reality and that is what Doyle's death did.

(Wow, I think I might be talking myself out of my own bitch-rant.)

Maybe I just wish it had been done in a different way, and I also wish there had been more time with Doyle (I know we didn't watch all the season), I just felt as though, to a degree, I was left wanting more out of Doyle, than an inspiring memory for Angel.

You make a smart point (or series of points) here, Cait. So the plot works to do something for Angel, but at Doyle's expense (sort of).
