Firefly's end
After watching some more episodes of Firefly and inquiring more information about it I started to wonder why it was cancelled. According to the network, the show did not get high enough ratings, and it was too expensive to keep going. That makes a lot of sense because networks are only worried about those two things, however, there was, and still is, a large fan base for the show. There are many fan cites and people constantly talking about Firerfly. I think that many people watched Firefly thinking it was going to be like Buffy and Angel so they were turned off because it was a new and different idea. I also think that the show's theme is too specific in the type of viewers it attracts, not allowing for it to be "anyone's" show. Also, the show aired on Friday nights which is not the ideal time slot because people are generally out and about on the weekends. Many, many fans of Firefly are still mad and upset about the end of the show and blame the Fox network completely. I don't really have an opinion about the end of the show, but I do find it odd because it seems to have a big fan base even after it was cancelled. I do believe that it was the network who caused many space cowboy fans to be upset.

the thing about Firefly is the fan base really grew to its current proportions AFTER the show was canceled. Fox killed it early, leading to hardcore fan piss-offedness, lots of internet discussions, increased popularity, and the wonderful gift of a movie.
I know firefly is one of many shows that have been cancelled. I really liked a series called Threshold that came on several years ago but was cancelled after one season. Sometimes it is that the show just doesn't catch on and then other times it is the time slot the network puts it in. Now with TIVO I would think that time slots wouldn't matter too much anymore because you can just record it, but I guess you still have to get into the series first to want to record it right?
Its easy enough to understand why it was cancelled, the show clearly was not meeting the needs of the network and Fox couldn't justify keeping it on. But for the question as to why it hasn't made a revival I have no answer. With such a large fan base, I feel like someone should have jumped already to continue the show. But I suppose they would have to worry about how to successfully pick up where season one left off about ten years ago. Thats alot of time!
I agree with Andrew. After ten years and a bunch of different projects going on for each of the actors, it would be tough to continue the show, however, I think it would be really cool if they did some kind of movie or special or something that is literally ten years later. With cowboys and spaceships it would be interesting to see what else came about later.
