Summer Glau - "River"

Summer Glau is an unbelievable actress. I don't know of any other actresses that could play River as well as she did. I think she played the role perfectly. Every movement and expression was totally believable and she had that sort of eery undertone that made me just slightly uncomfortable. Then, when she was in her more normal state, she was kind of a sweet, innocent girl, who just happened to read minds. I just really love the way she is able to make River such a likable and feared character all at once.

I'm with you 100%! I think I kind of have a girl crush on Summer because she is such a terrific actress. Her portrayal of River Tam grabbed my interest the most. Summer is able to pull off such a vulernability in all the right places, then suddenly turn around and kick ass.

A suggestion for anyone who likes her would be to watch her portayal as Cameron in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. She brings so many dimensions to that character, it's fascinating!

I agree as well, Summer Glau fit the role perfectly. Usually with other shows/movies I can think of actors that would be better suited for roles that the selected actors receive, but this was not the case. Glau playing as River moved with a grace I would expect to find characteristic of a deadly assassin, and her body language was on-point.

I am surprised that Glau has not has more exposure today. It seems like movies and shows would be snapping at the bit to catch her, but I haven't seen her in anything substantial since the doomed Sarah Conner Chronicles.

It was a difficult role to play, as the actress had to portray a girl who was not only creepy for a good part of the movie but also had to make us not want to see the crew kick her of the ship.
