It's probably confusing because I don't know how to italicize titles, but the "Angel" above refers to the show, not the character.
Note to writers: you may not want to make a series after the fact about a character you previously turned evil for dramatic effect. Having seen bits of Angel, I thought that Angel was faking it for the first half of the episode. Yes, I know it was shocking during the original run, but even if I watched the 20-some episodes leading up to “Innocence,” I still would have been confused. When they explained the curse and I realized that he had turned “evil,” I still didn’t really care, knowing he goes back to his tormented vampire routine. Don’t get me wrong, “Angelus” was my favorite part of the episode once I got past my doubt, but it had no dramatic punch for me. It definitely felt like a cheap ratings grab, maybe to replace the bad boy void that crippled Spike just can’t fill? And although I kinda hate myself for it, I loved every second of Angelus. The innuendo with Buffy was the most amusing writing I’ve seen so far, especially the “Was it good for you too?” written in German farmer guy’s blood.
Now for assorted observations:
- Angel’s “pro” line and his “not like I haven’t been there before” were awesome
- Buffy’s promise ring sobfest was ridiculous, but it wasn’t as bad as the chopped up sex scene. I think I’ve been spoiled by True Blood
- It felt a little odd that Cordelia would get offended when Xander called her prep school yuppy clothes trashy. So what if the skirt is a titch short? I only mention it because Cordelia is my favorite so far, and she must be defended!
- Oz seems a little too…Zen? for Buffy’s gang. He also comes across as a forty-year old at times. What he sees in Willow is beyond me
- Speaking of Willow, I want her to fall into the Hellmouth and die, she’s more of a drama queen than Buffy
- The Judge thing was rather disappointing. They were wringing their hands for nothing
- Hot Drusilla Moment of the Episode: the blindfolded (?) baby doll eye-gouging!

I appreciate strong opinions that spark debates and conversations, but I just have a few responses to even things out.
In my opinion, Buffy's sobfest was as real as any -- I can attest to it, as can some of our peers (not to be too personal, but just to make a point). Buffy's crying scene is the culmination of not only a teenage girl's first love (and most significantly, her first sexual experience) but also the scary realization that she may not be able to truly love anyone or be with them the way she deserves because of her duties and personal accountability as the slayer (a theme that pervades the series). She was obligated to cry it out, and I feel that makes her realistic, not ridiculous.
Willow redeems herself for however overly awkward or dramatic she may appear to be, and develops so much during the series. She's not one to write off. She's smart and loyal, and that's important for Buffy since she gets majorly toyed with by so many people. So, in her defense, throughout the series she does serve a great purpose. She also earns the most respect from Giles (perhaps only second to Buffy).
Also, to a strictly factual point: I watch True Blood, so I know what you're measuring the Buffy sex scenes up against. It would be completely against the rules to have anything as explicit as HBO shows on a regular network, so they have to get around it somehow with the more "covered up" depictions of sex. They can't get too scandalous. :)
